Description
Southern California Edison (SCE) will share an overview of their wildfire mitigation philosophy and a focused summary of their experience and findings with an incipient fault detection technology known as Early Fault Detection (EFD). Incipient fault detection technologies use various methods to detect possible power system failures before they occur. The EFD system uses sensors placed on distribution circuits to detect and accurately locate partial discharge events, which indicate a failure may be occurring at a given location. Findings to date include in-tank transformer discharge preceding transformer fuse operation, damaged overhead wire, and mylar balloon contact.
