Wayne Chatterton - Southwire Director Strategy
Sherif Kamel - Southwire VP, New Product Development
The utility industry must address many challenges in a fast-changing environment of climate change, DER & renewables integration as well as continued electrification of our energy economy. New solutions are needed to support the Adaptation, the Hardening, and the Resiliency (AHR) of the power delivery system. In this session three speakers from Southwire will discuss innovation, technologies and strategies needed to meet these challenges.
Presentation 1: Structuring R&D for Execution, AHR, Sustainability and the Race for Talent
Speaker: Axel Schlumberger, Senior Vice President, R&D Wire and Cable, Southwire
New solutions are needed to support the Adaptation, the Hardening, and the Resiliency (AHR) of the power delivery system. Innovation, through ideation, technology push and stakeholder pull, sustainability and a multidisciplinary approach to the hybrid workforce will meet these challenges.
Presentation 2: Expanded Options for Cable System Rejuvenation and Life Extension
Speaker: Wayne Chatterton, Director, Strategy, Southwire
It is possible to re-use existing cables that have aged for many years and now contain water trees. Cable rejuvenation by silicone fluid injection can extend the life of underground cables for many years. The process and the problem will be briefly addressed. Options for extending cable life will be described. Cables that have aged for even 40 years can be restored to like new via this process in a very short period of time.
Presentation 3: Product innovations for Grid Adaptation, Hardening and Resilience
Speaker: Sherif Kamel, Vice President for New Product Development of Wire and Cable, Southwire
With aging infrastructure and unprecedented environmental impact on the energy supply systems, Southwire is introducing new products to help improve grid hardening and resilience. This presentation discusses some of the problems and solutions.
