Joseph E. Svachula, Senior Vice President, Transmission & Compliance (Exelon Utilities) is responsible for formulating and executing Exelon’s transmission strategy and supporting policies. He leads the company’s participation in PJM and the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and serves as the company’s Chief NERC Compliance Officer. He is also responsible for the planning and safe and reliable operation of Exelon’s bulk power transmission system in Atlantic City Electric, BGE, ComEd, Delmarva Power, PECO and Pepco. Together, they form the nation’s largest utility company by customer count, serving approximately 10 million electric and gas customers in New Jersey, Maryland, Illinois, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia. Svachula was named to his current role in August 2021. Prior to this role, he served as vice president, Exelon Utility Strategy & Technology. Professional History Before joining Exelon Utilities, Svachula spent more than thirty years at ComEd and most recently served as Vice President of Engineering and Smart Grid, where he played a key strategic role directing the personnel and activities of the Distribution Planning, Reliability Programs, Equipment and Standards, Reliability Analysis and Smart Grid teams. He has also held Vice President positions in Distribution System Operations and Customer Field Operations. He began his professional career at ComEd in 1988 in a variety of field engineering positions and later assumed key leadership positions in Transmission & Substations, Work Management, Distribution Operations, Operational Strategy & Business Intelligence, and Customer Operations Strategies & Support. Civic Involvement Svachula serves on the Board of Directors for Chicago Special Olympics and Special Children’s Charities. He is an IEEE Senior member and is the 2017 IEEE Leadership in Power awardee He recently chaired the 2017 PES General Meetings and currently serves as the IEEE T&D Director planning the 2024 conference in Anaheim. Svachula is an active and regular volunteer for various special recreation activities in his community. Education Svachula holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois Chicago and a Master of Engineering Management from Northwestern University.
