Dr. Yan is an expert data scientist at the PG&E, working in the Risk and Data Analytics team for the Wildfire Risk Transmission Model. Before joining the PG&E, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. She earned her Ph.D. and M.S. at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Civil Engineering. Dr. Yan’s research focused on building model frameworks to address risks in complex water resource systems by coupling physics and biogeochemical processes in both mountainous and agricultural regions. Her current work aims at processing various type of data and developing machine model models to predict the probability of a wildfire induced by electric transmission failure for the purpose to prevent catastrophic wildfires. She is a well-trained modeler for both numerical simulations and machine learning models, focusing on understanding the fundamental factors and processes that determines the target variables by synthesizing various data such as historical data, stationary data, time series, and geospatial data.
