The race to decarbonize and electrify is straining the grid and slowing the progress to net-zero. According to a Princeton University study, to utilize carbon free renewable energy and meet critical climate goals before the worst effects of climate change take hold, the US will need to, in effect, double or even triple the size of the grid by 2030, which likely won’t happen. Grid enhancing technologies (GETs) will be the bridge that allows transmission grid owners and operators to increase capacity and improve efficiency in existing grids while they upgrade and/or build new infrastructure. This session includes presenters from several GET suppliers and their customers who will discuss some of the latest GET developments and projects that are making real differences in grid performance.
Key Takeaways:
- Latest technologies and solutions optimizing the existing grid and meeting generation challenges
- Real-world examples of GETs being used to increase transmission capacity and improve grid reliability
- Grid enhancement lessons learned for transmission owners and operators who wish to use GETs
