Date & Time
Tuesday, September 12, 2023, 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM
Location Name
Ballroom A8
Description

Storage-As-Transmission-Assets (SATA) can support the transformation of power systems in a cost-effective manner by increasing transmission capacity of existing and new build transmission networks. The panelists in this session will discuss the concepts and operational principles behind the grid booster battery projects.

Lars Stephan of Fluence will cover an installation in Germany that includes a 450 MW implemented by German transmission grid operators as part of the 2019 grid development plan. Natasha Henderson of the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) will discuss SPP’s request for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to approve energy storage as a transmission asset into its framework, as well as provide insight on potential benefits of SATA use in the U.S.

Key Takeaways:

• How Storage As Transmission Assets (SATA) can improve utilization of existing and new build transmission lines

• How SATA can increase the potential for renewable integration and reduce congestion on the grid and associated socio-economic cost

• How SATA can be operated as rate-based and market-based asset, improving project economics based asset, improving project economics
